Babe and Hay-Zeus

Posted by blackramfarm on March 30, 2009

Babe  and Hay-Zeus are black merinos that were born on this farm and now live a couple of miles down the road.   The owners are feeling the effects of a downed economy and are looking for new home for their small flock.      Babe is about 4, has lambed but shouldn’t anymore.  Hay-Zeus is a wether. Both have true black merino fleeces and are pets.  There is also a white romney cross ewe and two cashmere goats.  (wethers as well)  I will try and get some pictures up.

The cost of keeping this flock averages about 150.00 per month (hay in the winter)

  1. Well Becky,

I know you will have one some day soon. Grass grows quickly. We converted woodland to pasture by using the sheep as part of the transition. It worked well.

  2. Oh dear, a spinning flock is absolutely one of my long term goals. But what will someday be an acre of field is still just an acre of stumps and exposed dirt, without fencing and with no shelter. Maybe in 2 or 3 years we’ll be ready for sheep…

  3. Well, we had sheep in the basement for a while, but they were lambs and only because we had culled and they needed to be in to live. But maybe we should have a fund raiser for the family so they can keep the sheep.

If I only had a backyard I would totally jump on this.

As it is, I don’t know if two sheep will fit in our apartment.

    Alas.
