Babe and Hay-Zeus

Posted by blackramfarm on March 30, 2009

Babe  and Hay-Zeus are black merinos that were born on this farm and now live a couple of miles down the road.   The owners are feeling the effects of a downed economy and are looking for new home for their small flock.      Babe is about 4, has lambed but shouldn’t anymore.  Hay-Zeus is a wether. Both have true black merino fleeces and are pets.  There is also a white romney cross ewe and two cashmere goats.  (wethers as well)  I will try and get some pictures up.

The cost of keeping this flock averages about 150.00 per month (hay in the winter)

10 thousand hits

Posted by blackramfarm on March 29, 2009

I am writing this as the counter on the blog has recorded 9,999 hits.  That means that you could be the 10,000 reader.  I was wondering if there would be 10 thousand hits in one year and  April first is when this version of the blog started, so it will be a year in a few days.  In one year’s time, much has changed.

The farm closed down and the sheep left.

I had some stories published in Livin’  The Vermont Way magazine

Began work at the University of Vermont Extension

Back to grad school

gained 20 pounds, lost 5 so far

growing my hair out

oh yeah,

started writing a blog and had 10 thousand hits!  wish I could have gotten a buck for each one.

thanks to my faithful readers:  lulu, tookie and lili, beth and her spinblog and becky.

sorry for the lack of post lately, I will get back to it.

Town Meeting Mo’ville

Posted by blackramfarm on March 4, 2009

Davy called at 6:25 am to ask about the time for town meeting.  I though 9, but checked my annual report only to misread the time as 8.

Voting by Australian ballet started at 8, the actual time was 9 for town meeting.   We all met up at the ballet box, got a good bit of crow and then headed off for a cup of coffee at Thomasin’s.   Lots of bale out discussion there.  Then off to the school for the rest of the day.

Morristown School meeting went first and after about 3 hours of questions the budget was passed.  Then onto the town portion.  Election of the moderator, and 17 articles that needed approval.  There were about 120 voters for a town that lists the population as 5600.   Pretty small turnout.  By the afternoon many folks had left, but budgets were presented and defended.  Mostly everything passed without to much grumbling.

Overall the selectboard did a good job keeping the budget flat.   I think it passed without my rankor becuase of the work the board put in.  The school budget was pretty flat as well.

Town meeting is the best example of democracy in action.  You are able to question and debate then vote your view.  Openly and freely.  This is taxation with representation for those that choose to participate.

44

Posted by blackramfarm on March 2, 2009

It is my birthday today.  44. Half way there I think.  I figure if I can be active for 44 more years, then when I am 89, I can chill.   Thats my plan.

44 is a good half way point.

1. finished college.

2. own my own car and have a house. (bank still owns some of it though)

3. had kids and am watching them turn out pretty ok

4. have my house back, no more toys to trip on.

5. Can go back to school because I want to

6. don’t have to shave the legs in the winter

7. got a built in date (bub)

8. husband is pretty well trained at this point

9. can eat what I want, when I want.  ( just had a dish of ice cream because I could.)

10. my kids called to wish me a happy birthday, cuz I’m 44 and they think that I am old.

I share my birthday with a bunch of interesting people.  Dr. suess is the most interesting one though.  One year the girls made me green eggs and ham for my birthday breakfast.   My good friends Sue and Judith came over yesterday and we made a cake and had a birthday lunch.  Sue’s birthday is tomorrow the 3d.  Today a bunch of people called with wishes.  I am lucky.  I am 44 with 44 more to go!
