I smell a smelly smell that smells smelly……..

Rotating pasture reduces parasite load in sheep. We switch between the home pasture and the field across the road at our neighbor Dave’s every couple of days. I was planning to leave the flock across the street for one more night, but changed my mind out of pity and not logic.

First cut was this past week. The fields are cut for chop, feed for cows. Sheep can have it too, but you have to be careful about the fermentation of it during storage. Down the road, less then a mile is a dairy farm. They come up and hay the fields across the road, except for the strip my flock uses. The sheep did well with the machines going by all week.

Today they spread liquid manure to fertilize the fields. Not too bad most of the time when the wind is West to East. But I felt really bad for the sheep being so close. Plus, then the stink lingers and wool absorbs everything. I can’t have my sheep smelling like cows. UGH.

The flock is back home and we all celebrated by taking our evening pasture walk. They follow me closely because I will bend the branches of saplings and they love Maple leaves and new pine boughs. Tonight they lingered longer with me as I rested on a rock, simply enjoying the flock and being glad that the breeze was from the West, keeping the stink away
