Devil Dog Jason

Posted by blackramfarm on May 4, 2008

Jason has become bolder at 11 weeks old. His little horns are now 6″ long and he is short and rugged. Even with his front left leg still healing from the bad sprain earlier this spring, he will be a force to reckon.

Ramming behavior is seen within the first few weeks in both rams and ewes. The behavior of butting heads establishes a hierarchy in the flock. Jason is the moorit lamb on the left. Moses is the black ram, a yearling, on the lower right. Tiny is one of our mature ewes in the center. (Cory, mother of Jason and Moses is the white sheep in the back)

Even as a new lamb, one day old he had the devilish look.

Jason and his buddy Brutus

Jason’s best buddy is Brutus the barn cat.

I now have 4 rams, Two white, one black and one moorit. The second little white ram has been sold already and he will remain here until he is weaned. That leaves me with three to contend with.

Moses is related to half the flock, so is Jason. They are full brothers will the same sire and dam. Joseph is unrelated to all but his mother. He is white and not what I really desire for my flock. I need him to breed with the part of the flock that is related to the other rams.

It is time to start making a ram’s quarters for the boys. Jason, Joseph and Moses can all figure out who will be the top ram.
