blessed

The past two days have been wonderfully busy with the kids and spring chores. Several trips to the dump and to the junk yard have improved my spirits. I am still hoping that Madame Wu will have her lamb while everybody is still here.

Late this afternoon she headed down into the woods by herself, after being pretty much quite during the day. We checked her several times during the day and she seemed comfortable, no grunting or teeth grinding. She let us all get close which is a good sign. At the bottom of the pasture, in the woods is not a good place to lamb. We have not seen coyote this year, but without guard animals it makes me nervous. Last fall Wu lambed in the middle of the pasture by a stump, so her pattern is to be away from the flock and the barn.

Emilie and Kyle (Mr. wonderful the boyfriend) have headed out to the movies and Elizabeth is in the house on the lap top checking in with her friends. I move down to Wu and the flock follows down. We all move up to the barn area. Feed out and it is easy to lock Wu in for lambing.

An easy dinner and Cory is bleating non-stop. I left a bit of grain in the barn for Wu and she hasn’t touched it. Cory wants it and is very vocal about it. Wu is grinding her teeth and pawing at the ground. Labor is now in the second stage.

Elizabeth has never been here to see the lambs born. She has seen lambing at her buddy Jessie’s house, but not here and not close up through the whole thing.

I love lambing and watching life come, but to watch my 15 year old daughter experience lambing up close is really special. She was amazed and so interested about the process and the different reactions Wu has having to labor pains and delivery.

Twin ewes, one black and one moorit. Both are spotted. Really really spotted. I think I have been hanging around the dairy barn too much and some bovine mo-jo has come in to play. Em and Kyle got back from the movies in time to see the second lamb being born. What a great day. We are so very blessed.
