Off the hook with God

This Little guy is the new ram lamb, born April 2nd. He took a snooze in my lap the other day. He is wonderful and full of goodness. His mother has the nicest fleece, around 17 micron. His father Kahn was moorit and also had a top fleece. This little guy will have horns.
Sunday at spinning group, we debated the pros and cons with keeping him as a wether or selling him. I already have a white ram that was born this winter and is a new blood line for my flock. Joseph. He is from a registered merino flock belonging to Kendrick Smith in Ohio. I bought his mother last year at Rhinebeck as a bred ewe.
This little guy can’t be registered with the Merino Association because his sire is moorit. He can’t be registered with the Natural Colored Wool Growers Association because he is white. That means that I won’t be able to show him. No registration other then the Scrapie program. And, besides, I don’t need another white ram at Black Ram Farm.
Now I could neuter him, wether in farm terms, and he would be the best fleece animal on the farm. But white. Even with the best fleece, I still could not sell it for what it will cost annually to feed, vet and maintain him. He would be a hay-burner.
So selling is the best practical idea. The issue really is this, how do you sell God? Five year old Ben named this sheep God because ” God is my friend and I like God, so the sheep will be my friend and his name could be God”. Ben lives on a dairy farm and I think understands that animals are sold. But how do you tell a five year old that you are thinking of selling his friend God?
Ben is coming by for a visit this week. I hope that WU will deliver and there will be a new lamb to name. That might might get me off the hook with God, or will it?
